Chestnut: 540 Janka - A rare beauty
Chestnut is a softer hardwood that was annihilated by a blyte in the early 20th century. Today, this rare wood is found only through the reclamation process or as standing or fallen dead trees. Chestnut is sought for its acclaimed color and scarcity as high end flooring, and is a favorite in fine furniture, tables and trimwork. Color ranges from light brown to dark brown to gray-brown, and has an open grain pattern similar to that of Oak or Ash. As flooring - depending on the source of the Chestnut - one may see tight knots, pin holes, insect trails and signs of previous use: traits that add to its beauty.
